Graphiphora augur

The Soothsayer

The moth often appears to be almost uniformly dark grey, with a small but conspicuous black spot right in the middle of the forewing. When illuminated and viewed from just the right angles, however, a recognizable pattern of markings can be seen. In particular, the black spot is seen to be a smudge just outside the concave waist of the reniform stigma. In spite of its scientific and English names, I do not know what skills it has in foretelling the future.
