Euxoa infausta

One hot July day I saw evidence (frass!) of a large caterpillar on one of the prize Dahlias growing in the garden of our apartment building. I crept down in the middle of the night with a flashlight and found the caterpillar of Euxoa infausta smack in the middle of a flower. Hoping that I wouldn't be spotted by a member of the Strata Council, I snipped off the flower and smuggled it back into my apartment. The caterpillar apparently is not well known and there may not be many photographs of it in existence. The adult moth emerged later in the year. The type specimen of this species, in the British Museum, came from Vancouver Island.
