  NOCTUIDAE

Orthosia revicta

The striking reddish-brown caterpillar was on willow quite late in the summer, when good-quality willow was becoming hard to come by. The caterpillar accepted lettuce as a substitute. Lettuce is a useful standby for many noctuids, but it shouldn't be used regularly if a preferred foodplant is available.
