  NOCTUIDAE

Lacinipolia cuneata

The egg from which the caterpillar hatched was found on Ocean Spray on a hot July day, but as far as I could tell the caterpillar never ate any of the Ocean Spray. Instead it nibbled half-heartedly throughout the winter on dandelion, chickweed, and lettuce from the grocery store. It pupated in February and emerged in April.
