 NOCTUIDAE

Melanchra adjuncta

This moth is very similar to the European Dot Moth M. persicariae. While I am assuming that the moths found here are adjuncta there is always the possibility of introduced populations of the European species, or that adjuncta and persicariae might prove to be conspecific. There are green and brown varieties of the caterpillar. I have found it on Broom, which is potentially of interest since Broom is such an aggressive foreign weed in the area, and also on Alder.
