The caterpillars are noted for their sparse, long white hairs that are so fine that they are difficult to see unless looked for closely in good light or with a magnifier. They feed on willow. The cocoon is similar to that of N. cinereana. The genus Nycteola is in the subfamily Sarrothripinae.
