  DREPANIDAE

Pseudothyatira cymatophoroides

I have not seen the caterpillar of this species, which, in Canada, is largely, but by no means exclusively, a British Columbia species. The caterpillar has been recorded on alder. At least on Vancouver Island the sea urchin Strongylocentrotus droebachiensis has the reputation of being the organism with the longest scientific name. It does in fact beat this moth by three letters, though in terms of syllables the moth wins by one. The oecophorid moth Hofmannophila pseudospretella is a worthy runner-up.
