Butterflies and Moths of Southern Vancouver Island--Jeremy B. Tatum

GRACILLARIIDAE
Caloptilia alnivorella

The young caterpillar is a leaf-miner on alder, but when full grown it comes outside and rolls the edge of an alder leaf around itself. It pupates in a cocoon on the surface of the leaf. These moths sit on their haunches like a begging dog. I don’t know of any English name for them, but the “Tripod Moth” would seem like a good idea.
