Donations for Land Purchases, Conservation Covenants, and Conservation Projects

Over the many years since the Society formed, the Victoria Natural History Society has been involved in species and habitat protection through donations of money towards land acquisitions, conservation covenant monitoring, and conservation/restoration projects. In order to accomplish this we have worked with like-minded organizations including the following: Habitat Acquisition Trust, Rocky Point Bird Observatory, The Nature Conservancy of Canada, The Saltspring Island Conservancy, TLC-The Land Conservancy, and the Nanaimo Area Land Trust.

Projects/Land Acquisitions we have contributed money towards include:

  • Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary
  • Rocky Point Bird Observatory banding projects
  • Habitat Acquisition Trust conservation covenant monitoring
  • The Bring Back the Bluebirds Project
  • Metchosin’s annual Bioblitz
  • Protecting Mary Lake in the Highlands
  • Protecting forested lands on Saltspring Island
  • Wild Hills and Beaches Campaign
  • Protecting Madrona Farm in the Blenkinsop Valley
  • Building Homes and Habitats (pdf available for download)
  • The Matson Lands in Victoria’s Inner Harbour
  • Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo
  • Laughlin Lake on Galiano Island
