Mamestra configurata

I have found caterpillars of this moth on the flowers of Garden Marigold Calendula officinalis as well as on Parsnip Pastinaca sativa. In agriculture, the caterpillar is called the "Bertha Army Worm", usually preceded by an adjective such as "notorious". I have not heard of any particularly large outbreaks on southern Vancouver Island. Pupation is underground for the winter. The adult moth has rather unusual olive green and blue-and-white bands on the forewing.
