Oncocnemis dunbari
The caterpillar of this moth is quite remarkable in that, if disturbed, it will, with quite startling suddenness, leap two or three inches upwards, as if it were a coiled spring. I was quite astonished when I saw this performance. I found this one in July on the leaves of Ocean Spray, Holodiscus discolor. Only a few weeks were spent in the pupal state, the moth emerging in late August.
