 NOCTUIDAE

Alypia langtoni

Langton's Forester

This beautiful glossy black and white moth with orange muffs on the tibias of the first two pairs of legs is a startling relief among the pages and pages of typical brown and grey noctuids. It is placed in the subfamily Agaristinae, which some authors give family status to as Agaristidae. The caterpillars feed on Fireweed Epilobium angustifolium. Winter is spent as a pupa.
