  NOCTUIDAE

Dryotype opina

This is a western species which flies in September and October. The caterpillar has been recorded as feeding on Lathyrus and Lupinus(Fabaceae), but the one I found in May was on Snowberry (Symphoricarpos albus) and was quite happy to feed on it. Although it has been described as a foodplant specialist, I suspect that it might be more catholic in its choice of foodplant. We need to find more caterpillars to be sure.
