  GEOMETRIDAE

Coryphista meadii

Barberry Geometer

The caterpillar of this moth is sometimes found in gardens on Barberry, though the two eggs illustrated here, measuring 0.71 mm x 0.51 mm, were found on the underside of a leaf of the related Oregon Grape, Mahonia aquifolium, on May 16, 2005. The caterpillars hatched the following day, and grew astonishingly quickly, the adult moths emerging on June 15 and 16, a bare month later.
