The eggs are laid in April singly or in twos or three on the undersides of the leaves of Cascara Rhamnus purshiana. The very young caterpillars are the same colour and thickness of the leaf-veins, and they lie along the leaf-veins, making them quite hard to see. The eggs, indeed, are easier to find than the young caterpillars. The adult hibernates and may be seen in fall and spring.
