Sicya macularia

The caterpillar is found in June on Holodiscus discolor or on Symphoricarpos albus and is easily recognized by the two curious bud-like growths sprouting from the back. They are one of the easier geometrids to rear, since they spend only two or three weeks in the pupal stage. The pupa, formed in a flimsy cocoon in a curled up leaf of the foodplant, is shiny and silvery, reflecting the colours of its immediate surroundings.
