This species is widespread across most of North America. Its caterpillar has been recorded on many trees and shrubs, both coniferous and broad-leaved. Winter is spent as a caterpillar. This individual was found in May feeding on the shrub Ceanothus thyrsiflora. The moth emerged in the last week of July.
