  PAPILIONIDAE

Papilio rutulus

Western Tiger Swallowtail

This and the Pale Tiger Swallowtail are the two largest butterflies we have in the area, the female being appreciably larger than the male. Willow is the usual foodplant, but I have also fond it on Cottonwood, Hardhack and Ocean Spray. The species is completely univoltine in this area.
