PLUTELLIDAE

Euceratia castella

This is a common species on southern Vancouver Island, and it can often be seen flitting around the foodplant of the caterpillar, which is Snowberry Symphoricarpos alba. It is one of the earliest caterpillars to be found in the spring. Pupation is in a whitish or pale green cocoon attached to the foodplant. It has a rather characteristic shape, which can be seen in the photograph.
